ARCHON ALUMNI ASSOCIATION, INC.

FOUNDED IN 1966 – UNIVERSITY OF RIO GRANDE

Dear Brother Nick.

Congratulations!! The Archon Alumni Association executive board

has selected you for the “Dean S Brown, Last Candle Award” for the year 2023! This award goes to a brother who has notably exhibited dedication and service to the fraternity, the University of Rio Grande and to the southeastern Ohio community that our university serves. Through your generous hospitality and interest, you have exemplified and demonstrated that part of our oath that asks us to “strive to make real the Orders ideal, in our own daily life.”

The embodiment of this award can be found within our ceremony of induction that all Archon men have knowledge of.  Several phrases from this ceremony embody the sentiment of what this award represents.

Picture yourself standing in a darkened room, in front of an array of 13 candles, each representing the 13 men who founded our order.

“WITHOUT THE INSIGHT OF THESE YOUNG MEN, WE COULD NOT ENJOY THE POSITION WE NOW HOLD.”

Each candle represents a hidden meaning of purpose to our order… in fact… our obligations.  For the purpose of an explanation of this award, we will concentrate on the “last candle”… a solitary flame in the midst of 12 extinguished candles.  This candle is…

THE CANDLE OF FRATERNAL SPIRIT”!

In every era…in every generation of Archon men… we as an organization have experienced high points, and low points. To allow this last candle to be extinguished, has never happened.  You, Brother Nick Kostis, are worthy of acknowledgement of the practice of profound “Fraternal Spirit!” !

You deserve this honor, and on behalf of the fraternity, we would like to thank you and recognize all the hospitality, all the time and largess you have furnished to Archon, to our university and not allowing that last candle can be blown out!

Amaque,

“Our Strong Bonds”

Archon Alumni President
