For the benefit of the Archon Scholarship
The 26th Archon Classic will be held Saturday, August 17, 2024, at the Elks Golf Course in Wilmington, Ohio. This is our yearly showcase alumni event, and we are returning to the golf course where the Archon Classic originated in 1998 and has since proven to be a mainstay in renewing old friendships of brotherhood…and establishing new ones. The common thread of fraternal spirit is a basic tenant of our organization. Building on this spirit, along with your generous participation, allows us to continue our traditional history of service to the University. The Archon Classic and our scholarship is one of the ways of accomplishing this.
As the Archon Classic continued to grow, it became clear that Archon men were acknowledging an interest in supporting our active order and our university. Under the leadership of Dean Brown ‘62, the Archon Scholarship was born. From that point, the funds raised through this event have been totally invested and administered for the benefit of scholarship opportunities for high achieving Archon actives.
Since 1998, a total of over $50,000 has been awarded to active order recipients who have met the metrics established by the scholarship committee and the University. Scholarship committee chairman, Rusty Bookman ‘82, sums up the purpose of the Archon scholarship in this way: “Achievement and success are an Archon tradition and expectation. These competitive scholarships provide a means and generate the characteristics that are necessary for the continuation of our order.”
This year we would like to emphasize the importance of hole sponsorship. This is where the bulk of the funds raised through the Classic are realized. The fees we collect for participation in the event mostly pay for the expenses of the event. Even if you cannot make it to the Classic, I urge you to please consider becoming a personal hole sponsor of the Classic. We completely understand the inflationary financial situation many of us find ourselves in today. We believe, however, that your $100 personal or $300 corporate sponsorship is a way for you to have some skin in the game in continuing our 68-year-old legacy. This scholarship has made a real difference in the “success” Rusty is speaking about.
The Archon Alumni Association is registered 501c3 organization and your generous contributions are tax deductible !
Like our active order and our alumni association, the Archon Classic will continue to grow and succeed. You are a significant element to this success. We sincerely hope your interest in the continued perpetuation of our brotherhood is something you recognized within yourselves. It is quite unusual for an organization like ours to survive the number of generations Archon has realized. This event and its goal is a perfect example of why we have survived and will continue to persist and endure on the campus of Rio Grande.
Amaque,
