It is with great pleasure that the board of the Archon Alumni Association announces that brother Brad Varney, a graduate of the University of Rio Grande, has been selected as a recipient of the Ohio Federal Security Director, Patriot Award.

 

The Ohio Federal Security Director’s Award honors TSA employees, military veterans, and others representing law enforcement agencies from across the state. The awards are intended to recognize those who have committed their lives to service and public good, as well as families with histories of military and law enforcement service that span generations.

Robert Clark, Director of Public Safety for the City of Columbus, delivered the keynote address This is the second year the Ohio TSA Office has given its Patriot Awards in this format, choosing to hold the ceremony around the anniversary of the September 11th attacks, which spurred the creation of the agency.

“Brad Varney is a Private Citizen who is responsible for creating and managing a series of Non-profit Charites to support college attendance for young men from low-income families in Southeastern Ohio.  Mr. Varney also supports and coordinates charitable donations for small colleges in Southeastern Ohio.  All these services are conducted at no cost or benefits for his services.  Additionally, Mr. Varney has established mentorship programs where these young men are connected with professionals in various businesses sectors to help guide them through their education and pursuit of initial employment opportunities. Mr. Varney firmly believes in the importance of education as a mechanism to change young lives for the better.”

“There is no better time to reflect on the legacy of service that runs through so many in Ohio, and we all benefit from that,” Ohio TSA Federal Security Director Don Barker said. “The individuals we were able to honor at Friday’s event have committed their lives to keeping us safe and bettering their communities, and we hope these awards highlight our appreciation.”

 

The sentiments expressed by the Director in the invitation and those voiced in the commendation statement are exactly those of the Men of Archon!
